Here’s the scenario - you’ve just purchased the most adorable maxi dress from Savy Mae’s Boutique, where all of the best women’s fashions in the world can be found! Wait, is that too much?! All right, maybe we’re just overly biased, but we do have a nice selection of gorgeous dresses.
Circling back to the scenario, let's say you’re so excited for your blue maxi dress to arrive and you're already envisioning what cute shoes and accessories you want to pair with it. However, reality sets in and you’re quickly reminded that you’re a short girl who always has trouble with long dresses, regardless of the height of your heels. None of that matters though because the fact is that you love your new dress so much that you’re determined to make the length work for you.
So your new maxi finally arrives and you absolutely love it, but as you suspected, it's just too long on you. Of course, there is always the inconvenient option of taking your cute new dress to the local seamstress to be altered to fit your needs. However, let's be honest, this option isn't attractive since you want to wear your new dress for a big event this weekend and just don’t have the time to spare for the timely process. Yikes!
No worries, you're not going to have to resort to wearing some old dress that you purchased years ago that you never really loved anyway simply because the new dress you love so much is too long on you. Most of us have been in this exact situation so we don’t want you to sweat it, because we have a fix for you, girl!
Our first, and favorite, stylish solution to shorten a maxi dress that is too long is “The Bottom Knot.” Yes, this is exactly what it sounds like too, a simple knot at the bottom of your maxi dress. This is such a cute, yet great idea and the styling possibilities are endless. You can tie a loose knot to keep the flirty flowy look of the maxi. You can also tie it a little snug to create a fun fitted dress that is not only comfortable, but extremely fashionable.
If none of the aforementioned options are appealing, don't fret because you can try another option - the "waist knot." This option is a bit more tricky and may not work on all maxi dresses, but it's great for dresses that are extremely long on you. All you have to do is gather some fabric at your waist until the dress is your desired length and then simply tie a knot wherever you think it looks best (middle, side, or back) and feels most comfortable. Also, it's a neat way to mix it up if you need to spice up your wardrobe a bit.
Helpful tip: Using a hair tie or rubber band around the knot will ensure your knot stays secure.
It’s always a good idea to try something new to showcase your beautiful maxi dress, so knot up your style, girl! We know that you'll love it and look great!
